The Warren Astronomical Society meets monthly on the first Monday of every month in the auditorium at Cranbrook Institute of Science. We do a bit of club business early on, then have a major presentation usually put together by one of our members.

Jerry Kuchera, longtime WAS member and macular imager extraordinaire, presents on the impact craters that surround us invisibly, that lie beneath our lakes and roads and countrysides. It's sure to be a surprising and fun presentation!

I enjoyed giving this presentation--it's remarkable that there are craters in the midwest you can visit. Since most of us won't be going to the moon anytime soon, it's enlightening to think one can still visit a crater--on terra firma! Although initially catastrophic, ancient Earth craters are being investigated for what they can teach us about how our solar system was created.

Jerry Kuchera, the foremost "macular imager" of the W.A.S., presented a delightful talk on the surprisingly many impact craters of the Great Lakes region. These geographical highlights range from a submerged crater just north of Sarnia to the dramatic Sudbury crater, the remains of a truly horrific impact 1.85 billion years ago. With Jerry's instructions, you too can enjoy a "Picnic on a Crater's Rim."

Another terrific presentation from Mr. Kuchera. Very timely, too - the new Sky & Tel and Scientific American both address the "speculative" part of the presentation. A lively conversation about the major North American extinction 13000 years ago ensued on the mailing list.
