The Warren Astronomical Society meets twice per month indoors for educational presentations and business meetings and at least once per month outdoors for observing the night sky. We are glad to share our telescope views, so you do not need any equipment to get started.
All meetings and observing sessions are free, whether you are a club member or not. There are inexpensive dues if you decide to join the club. To see the benefits of membership and how to join, see the main site or speak to the treasurer at any meeting.
Meetings
Our two indoor meetings each month both start at 7:30 PM. The Cranbrook meeting typically runs until 10 PM; the Macomb meeting runs until 9:30 PM. We meet the first Monday of every month at the Cranbrook Institute of Science and the third Thursday of the month at the south campus of Macomb Community College. See warrenastro.org for maps and directions, or see individual meetups for details.
Our outdoor observing each month is on a Saturday night near first quarter moon. It runs from about sunset to as late as people want to stay. Our observing site and our Stargate Observatory are at Camp Rotary in Wolcott Mill Metropark, which is on 29 Mile Road about 5 miles east of Van Dyke. For the address and links to map and directions, see the Stargate page. For specific dates, check for upcoming meetups or see the calendar. We will not be observing if it is too cloudy.
To get information about other upcoming events, watch the Meetup or check the calendar.
Internet Resources
We maintain a private, notifications-only mailing list for meetings, special events, observing nights, and other extremely notable happenings. There are only a few emails per month - you won't be spammed. If you would like to be added to it, please give your email address to Dick Gala at any meeting, or send it to him at: announcements@warrenastro.org
Every month, the W.A.S. newsletter, the WASP, is published online. The newsletter features member articles and photos, syndicated articles, member classified ads, and more.
